'Off Campus' condemns online hate after cast faces harassment
'Off Campus' producer's statement comes after a resurfaced video went viral
Off Campus has become an instant hit. But the buzz around the Prime Video series has turned into toxic harassment from some fans.
Amid such hype, the show's leading star, Mika Abdalla, split from her fiancé, Jake Short.
Then, a flood of trolling ensued.
Now, the makers behind Off-Campus issued a statement of support.
“The off-campus community is built on a shared love of storytelling—and on respect for the real people who bring it to life,” the message read.
“We ask that everyone in this space extend that respect to our cast and the people in their lives."
"Accounts that engage in targeted harassment will be removed from following our accounts.”
As for the split, Short's old clip went viral on social media after he parted ways with his fiancée.
In the resurfaced podcast video, he joked about Abdalla as "some b****."
However, the former pair, in a joint statement, clarified that the clip did not represent their five-year relationship.
“People making harmful and inaccurate assumptions about our dynamic,” the couple wrote.
“We were in a loving, respectful relationship for five years, and it’s hurtful to see playful moments dissected in a way that does not reflect the respect and love we had and still have for each other," the ex-pair concluded.
