Mitsubishi is adding a new electric vehicle to its lineup, but the latest model may look strikingly familiar to EV shoppers. The 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback has been revealed, bringing fresh styling cues while sharing its foundations with the latest Nissan Leaf.

At first glance, the Eclipse Sportback separates itself from Nissan’s compact EV, with a redesigned front end and slightly different overall vibe. The Mitsubishi signature Triple Diamond badge sits right on the nose, and it’s paired with revised lighting elements plus a completely different bumper design.

The taillights swap the Leaf’s layout for opposing, L-shaped light signatures, and then bold Mitsubishi lettering stretches across the tailgate, more or less like it means business.

Underneath all that revised bodywork, the Eclipse Sportback is pretty much expected to lean on the very same base platform and drivetrain as the 2026 Nissan Leaf, or something very close to it.

Nissan is currently selling the Leaf with a 75-kWh pack and an electric motor rated at 214 horsepower.

And since the Leaf S+ starts at $31,535, once you factor in destination charges, the Mitsubishi lookalike might end up in a similar kind of price neighbourhood.

Mitsubishi has not yet put out any official specs or confirmed performance numbers so far.

Beyond the front and rear redesigns, Mitsubishi has tweaked a few smaller points too. The C-pillar trim is a bit different from the Leaf's, while the side skirts show subtle striations. Even the unique alloy wheels help push the crossover toward a more spirited look.

So far, no interior shots have been released, though people pretty much assume it will mirror the Nissan Leaf’s cabin layout, more or less.

Mitsubishi says the 2027 Eclipse Sportback is slated to hit dealerships in the second half of this year. Pricing, trim options and availability are expected to be revealed sometime soon.
