Madonna shuts down Times Square with epic surprise show for fans
Madonna is currently promoting her upcoming album, ‘Confessions II’
Madonna performed a surprise concert in Times Square, New York City on Thursday afternoon.
To mark the beginning of Pride Month and to celebrate her upcoming album, Confessions II, the Queen of Pop took to the stage at the busy landmark.
As people gathered to watch the spectacle, Madonna threw off a pink veil and launched into her new single, I Feel So Free while her longtime producer, Stuart Price, served as DJ.
"Thanks for coming... creating a persona... I can be whoever I want to be," she declared.
She performed on the platform in a lilac corset ensemble and knee-high silver boots, Madonna also performed her tracks Bring Your Love, originally a collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter and Love Sensation.
"Are you ready, it's Mother," she declared.
Elsewhere in the 15-minute set, the 67-year-old offered up versions of her songs Get Together and I Love New York, from her 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor, before finishing with an energetic rendition of her enduringly popular dance track, Hung Up.
And to conclude, Madonna yelled to the crowd, "Thank you, New York City, I love you! Happy Pride!"
The music superstar is set to unveil her album Confessions II on July 3.
Madonna worked on the project with Price, who produced the original album, and as she reflected on the project in a recent Instagram post, the Material Girl hitmaker described dance music as a "ritualistic space".
"Confessions Il is a love letter to dance music and to all the spaces and communities that create it or enjoy it," she wrote. "The dance floor isn't about a specific space or building, it's wherever we gather to dance, celebrate and connect. Thank you for being a part of this moment and for supporting my music."
