Kirstin Maldonado breaks silence on her Broadway debut in 'SIX'
Kirstin Maldonado talks about the kind of efforts she put in to appear in Broadway show 'SIX'
Kirstin Maldonado opened up about her Broadway debut and the challenges she faced to breathe life into her character.
Maldonado is playing Anne Boleyn in Broadway’s SIX, which started on June 1. The show is about King Henry VIII's six wives and Boleyn was his second wife, whose marriage to the monarch was annulled with her infamous beheading in 1536.
The 34-year-old American singer-songwriter told PEOPLE magazine that she first gave an audition for the role in 2023 but could not secure the role at that time and aced the audition later.
Reflecting on the early days of her practice, she said, "I went [to New York] in February for a little bit and knocked some of the rehearsal out just to get a little head start on it.”
Maldonado went on to reveal that she wanted to portray Boleyn as per her vision because she thinks the character is “super spicy.”
The member of Pentatonix explained, "I want to play her like really badass, just kind of that effortless... And I think the comedy of her comes within her effortlessness and kind of style. I'm really looking forward to leaning into the pop-punk quality that she's based on, too.”
"This show is just really difficult vocally and physically. I'll definitely have to warm up my body, do some stretching, which I'm not quite used to, but I'm excited,” Kirstin Maldonado admitted.
