'Mrs. Doubtfire' star Lisa Jakub drops bombshell about Robin Williams’ role in her mental health journey
Lisa Jakub gets honest about her 'Mrs. Doubtfire' co-star Robin Williams’ role in her mental health journey
Lisa Jakub, famous for her performance in Mrs. Doubtfire, highlighted Robin Williams’ role in her mental health journey.
For those unaware, Jakub played the role of Lydia Hillard in the 1993 comedy-drama film directed by Chris Columbus and written by Randi Mayem Singer and Leslie Dixon, which is based on the 1987 novel Madame Doubtfire by Anne Fine.
On Friday, May 29, the 47-year-old Canadian writer, yoga teacher, and erstwhile child actress attended the Mrs. Doubtfire reunion event with her former co-stars Mara Wilson and Matthew Lawrence, who were cast as her siblings in the film.
While reflecting on her time working with top-notch actors, Jakub revealed that she found great lessons in Williams’ openness about mental health struggles, as he fought with depression and addiction for much of his life.
He “talked to me because obviously I was honest with him and he and I talked a lot about my issues with anxiety and depression and he shared a lot about his struggles in life too,” the Independence Day star shared.
“And it was really the first time that someone was so completely open and teaching me to not feel ashamed of these things and that there was help that I could get and there was support that I could get and I didn't have to feel like a messed up weirdo because of what I was struggling with,” she explained.
It is pertinent to mention that what Lisa Jakub really liked was the fact that “[Williams] was so accepting and loving and vocal with me about what he had gone through.”
