Nicolas Cage, an Oscar winner, stepped into the television arena for the first time.

His version of Spider-Man in Spider-Noir drew applause from critics and audiences alike.

But the actor, who has a long-time career in the film industry, has faced a few issues early in shooting the show.

“What’s different about television, and I’m a student and want to learn things, is that the director of photography sets up the shot with the stand-in."

Further, in TV production, Cage said, it is much faster-paced than filmmaking.

"In a movie, you bring the actors in and you’re with the DP and you all talk it through, and it’s not quite like that with television because of the time constraints."

He continued, "It was a bit of a learning curve. In the first episode, I was like, ‘What is going on?’ ‘What is this?!’ It’s a little more factory, and you have to adjust.”

But the challenges for Cage did not stop there.

It is working with a string of directors for a show, which is unlikely, in a movie.

"The other big difference, obviously, is that you get in step with a director, and then two episodes later, you have a new director."

"So, you wonder, ‘Are we going to gel?'" the National Treasure star said.

"‘This is my rhythm, and what’s your rhythm? ’"

"What they’ll do is they’ll bring in the subsequent director; he or she will watch for a couple of weeks and talk it through, and you get to know them."

But despite his reservations, Cage was left with a pleasant surprise.

"And I was blessed, because each of the directors had something different to offer, and there was this nice creative coalition going on.”

Spider-Noir is streaming on Prime Video.
