Force strikes back as 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' hauls jaw-dropping box office figure
'The Mandalorian and Grogu' stuns critics by bringing striking box office numbers
In a shock to critics, The Mandalorian and Grogu powered through the Memorial Day weekend with a jaw-dropping $102 million.
The numbers at the box office beat the previous estimated figures, which put the new Star Wars movie haul in the range between $91 and $96 million.
The stunning performance by The Mandalorian and Grogu shows the Force is still very much active after nearly a decade since the first Star Wars movie hit theatres.
Critics rate 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' low
Variety's review read, "Jon Favreau directs a big-budget movie with a tidy small-screen consciousness."
"But that might be what "Star Wars" now is," it says.
Slashfilm's review is even more brutal.
"In its desperate attempt to satisfy everyone, "The Mandalorian and Grogu" neglects to tell a meaningful tale worth anyone's time."
"Star Wars" has never felt duller or more mundane. This isn't the way, folks," the review read.
Den of Geek's review echoes the previous reviews' criticism.
"Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu might be the first summer tentpole blockbuster that feels like a small-screen rerun."
