Palace announcement on Eugenie hints at future royal role of York sisters
Buckingham Palace message on Princess Eugenie seen as subtle show of unity
Princess Eugenie received royal support following the announcement of her third pregnancy with Buckingham Palace’s official statement.
The announcement sparked speculation that King Charles is standing firmly behind the York sisters despite the ongoing controversy surrounding former Prince Andrew.
Speaking on Sky News Australia, UK barrister and broadcaster Andrew Eborn described the announcement as a rare positive moment for the York family after many damaging headlines linked to Andrew.
“It’s great to have this good news,” he said, adding that Eugenie and Princess Beatrice had been “embroiled in all of this” scandal for years.
“So congratulations. It’s great news,” he added.
Eborn then talked of Palace’s wording in the announcement, which referred to the royal as “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie.”
According to him, the use of her full title was significant amid speculation over whether the York sisters’ royal status could eventually be affected.
“Well, here’s a very resounding endorsement of those two unfortunate girls,” the commentator said. “It’s good to have some positive press for those princesses. Well done to the palace for endorsing them in this way.”
