Rita Wilson reveals Bruce Springsteen's role in her songwriting career
Rita Wilson opens up about how Bruce Springsteen encouraged her to be 'a rule breaker'
Rita Wilson has lifted the lid on one of the greatest lessons she learnt from Bruce Springsteen about songwriting and creativity.
On April 28, the 69-year-old American actress and singer spoke at the Sound of a Woman: Rita Wilson in Conversation with Demi Moore event at 92NY in New York City.
During the event, Wilson admitted that she was not sure about her decision to pursue songwriting and was battling anxiety at that time when Springsteen helped her calm down by sharing some words of wisdom.
Calling to mind, she shared, “We were talking one day about songwriting … he was giving a masterclass really on it. And so when there was a pause, I said to him, ‘What makes me think that I can start writing now when you've been writing all your life?' And he said, "Because, Rita, creativity is time independent.’”
“And I thought that's so true, like, who's got the clock? Who up there has got the clock saying, ‘I'm sorry, that was supposed to happen in 1985?’” the Boss of Me hitmaker noted.
Following her meaningful conversation with the acclaimed singer-songwriter and musician, Wilson now thinks that “we have so many limiting beliefs — our own beliefs — but also societal beliefs that say, ‘You can't do that, or that's not acceptable.’”
“And I'm here to break some rules. I never was a rule breaker when I was a teenager, a rebel in any sense. I'm gonna be now,” the Even More Mine crooner said with determination.
It is pertinent to mention that after dedicating her life completely to what she loves, Rita Wilson dropped her sixth studio album, Sound of a Woman, on May 1, 2026.
