'Avatar' star Zoe Saldana reveals how aging impacted her makeup routine as she nears 50
The Oscar-winning actress reflected on her thoughts on makeup when she was younger
Zoe Saldana is opening up about how her makeup regimen has changed over the past few years.
The 47-year-old actress recently sat down with Harper's Bazaar and revealed that getting older has led her to simplify her beauty routine.
"I don't wear makeup. I can't remember the last time," she told the outlet.
However, when the Emilia Perez actress was younger, she used to spend hours mastering the "no-makeup makeup."
Zoe, who became the highest-grossing actress earlier this year, continued, "When I was younger, the idea of walking out without makeup — I would always do the no-makeup makeup thing. I would spend so much time mastering that. And now it literally is no makeup, except mascara. I'll put on mascara because I do need that little volume."
One of the reasons behind staying away from too many products is her Caribbean roots.
"It's just, it's a lifestyle for us. Caribbean peoples, you know, it's so hot in the Caribbean, so you're constantly taking showers," she revealed, noting that her mom "did not believe in overwhelming our bodies and our systems with too many products.
She added, "So for her, it was as natural as possible."
Zoe is not the only celebrity in Hollywood who has embraced no makeup.
Pamela Anderson, The Naked Gun actress, notably began her no makeup movement in late 2023.
She said in an interview on Today.com in November of the same year, “I am much more comfortable in my own skin, but I also am in an industry that really focuses on beauty. And I thought, ‘I’m going to challenge beauty.’”
