Doja Cat gets real about 'agonising condition' as she gets diagnosed with borderline personality disorder

Doja Cat has revealed she is struggling with borderline personality disorder (BPD).

The 30-year-old singer made the revelation via a TikTok video posted on Friday, saying she has spent much of her life pretending to be happy or to like things she didn’t, which eventually caught up with her.

“I’ll get it done. And it caught up with me, and I think it always does for people. I’m now struggling with BPD,” she said. She added that she has been in therapy for years and continues to work on her “agonising condition,” which she feels she has dealt with for most of her life.

The Say So hitmaker described her treatment as a long process, saying, “It is like an eight-year process of curing, of treatment, of healing, in order to cure it.” She added that despite setbacks and mistakes, she feels proud of the progress she has made.

Borderline personality disorder is a mental health condition that affects how people feel about themselves and others. It often leads to unstable relationships, impulsive actions, and difficulties in everyday life, according to the Mayo Clinic.

In the same video, Doja Cat praised fellow artist Chappell Roan for being honest and comfortable in front of others while dealing with public scrutiny. 

“I had to learn how to be honest with myself. I lied to myself for years, for most of my life, and to see her sit there, and I love it,” she said. Doja noted that Roan has been herself without hurting anyone, and she hopes to follow that example in her own life.
