Britney Spears’ manager has just claimed that the global star’s arrest was "long overdue".

He further told Page Six that the Criminal singer’s "completely inexcusable" DUI was the wake-up call she needed.

"This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable," a representative for Spears, told the outlet.

"Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life,” they added.

For the unversed, Spears was arrested by the California Highway Patrol on Wednesday night and booked into a local jail.

TMZ was the first to report that the Toxic hitmaker had been picked up for driving under the influence (DUI).

However, even after the setback, Spears’ management expressed hope she would be appropriately supported in the wake of her arrest, adding that her sons Sean Preston and Jayden, whom she shares with ex Kevin Federline, would be close by.

"Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time," the representative said.

"Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well-being,” it was further mentioned.

Britney Spears was released from a court-ordered conservatorship in 2021, freeing her to make decisions regarding her estate, medical care, and personal life.

The conservatorship was established in 2008 after she was hospitalised for a psychiatric evaluation.
