Dua Lipa highlights government crackdown and internet blockage in Iran
British singer Dua Lipa has made some rare political remarks on her Instagram account, leaving her fans divided.
The “Levitating” singer shared a statement posted by her Service 95 platform’s on the ongoing situation in Iran.
"In Iran, we are seeing slaughter at a scale like never before," read a quote shared by Dua Lipa to her Instagram stories. The singer's story was shared with the words “Keep your eyes on on Iran.”
Citing Human Rights Activists in Iran, the statement posted by Dua Lipa’s Service 95 said, ““More than 90 million Iranians are cut off from the rest of the world right now, preventing information coming in – and coming out.”
Since protests began in Iran on 28 December against the economic state of the country HRA, which cross-checks its information with sources in Iran, has verified that 5,002 people have been killed – including 43 children under 18. More than 12,000 additional cases are still being reviewed.
A large number of Iranian followers of the singer thanked her for speaking for them but those supporting the Iranian government criticized Dua Lipa for speaking on behalf of their countries’ enemies.
