Teyana Taylor breaks silence on her first Grammy and Golden Globe nods
Teyana Taylor reveals how she feels after receiving her Grammy and Golden Globe nominations
Teyana Taylor has opened up about her feelings after receiving her first Grammy and Golden Globe Nominations.
For those unaware, the 35-year-old American singer-songwriter and actress signed her first record deal at the age of 15 and she has been working to achieve her dreams in the world of entertainment.
However, after dropping her third studio LP The Album, Taylor retired from music because she felt “super under-appreciated as an artist.”
Following her retirement, she shifted her focus to building her acting resume, as she acted in the comedy sequel Coming 2 America (2021) and the powerful drama A Thousand and One (2023).
Despite announcing retirement, music called the Cool Mom songstress again and she released an album titled Escape Room in August of this year.
While conversing with PEOPLE magazine, Taylor talked about her return to music by saying, “I think what lured me back was just me coming back on my terms. All I ever wanted was to feel appreciated, and I wanted to feel utilized. I didn't want to be stuck or put into one box.”
After proving herself to her doubters, she is determined to make music as well as fall in love with it.
“I love to create and direct, so being able to come back to music in such a vulnerable way was very healing for me. It was a lot of different things blocking my journey or what was written for me,” Taylor quipped.
