After former Prince Andrew lost his remaining royal titles over his links to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, some commentators suggested that Prince William, the heir to the British throne, was the driving force behind King Charles's move against his uncle.
Andrew who fell out of favor with William due to controversies that caused embarrassment to the royal family, was once a friend of the future king's mother, the late Princess Diana.
In Diana's own words Andrew was her closest male friend in the royal family until her romance with King Charles began.
While dating Charles, Andrew's friend was concerned about the 13-year-age group with the Queen Elizabeth's first son but she never voiced her apprehension .
In his 1993 book "Diana Vs Charles", author James Whitaker wrote that the then Princess of Wales said that her age difference with Charles was unimportant. "The gap just does not matter," she was quoted as saying.
However, the author revealed that Diana was actually concerned about it.
"And who can blame her? It is my belief that towards the end of their courtship Diana deliberately put away all thoughts of this in a conscious effort to keep the relationship as strong as possible. But the memory of him, so much older when she was a tiny child, never quite went away."
Writing about her past, the author mentioned a heart touching moment involving Diana, Prince Andrew and the late Queen Elizabeth.
"One such occasion was at Sandringham in the mid 1960s, when the five-year-old Diana was to be found playing with the six-year-old Prince Andrew and a grown-up."
"Diana's nanny Janet Thompson recalled walking into a drawing room after hearing a voice urgently calling out "Where are you?, only to discover the Queen playing hide-and-seek with her son and his guest (Diana)."
Interestingly, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor will be moving to the very Sandringham House after King Charles ordered him to vacate Royal Lodge.
