Demon finally shows up in 'IT: Welcome to Derry'
Creators of 'IT: Welcome to Derry' share their view on the appearance of the key character in episode five
Four episodes of IT: Welcome to Derry have passed, and there has been no reveal of Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise.
But as the fifth episode dropped, the demon clown made a dramatic entry as season one's story neared the halfway point.
Creator Barbara Muschietti, while weighing in on the series' villain's appearance, says she and her co-maker plan to follow 'less is more' regarding the antagonist.
"We decided that, in this season, Pennywise should be a little bit like the shark in Jaws," she tells EW. "You really want to be strategic. In both movies, it was very important for us to keep the mystery and the fear for this character alive."
"We find that familiarity is the enemy of that. So it was important for us to delay the pleasure, or the terror, as much as we could."
Similarly, her co-creator, Andy, says it is "a game of anticipation" to "get people in that state of 'I need to see the clown! Where is it?!' That's what we would've liked as an audience. It's a bit of a slow burn."
It is worth noting that only three episodes have been left for IT: Welcome to Derry's season one.
