Duchess Sophie seals important deal for UK in Guatemala
King Charles ‘secret weapon’ Sophie takes firm stance during crucial meeting
The Duchess of Edinburgh played a crucial role for the UK as she represented the nation in an important meeting held in Guatemala.
Duchess Sophie, who is undertaking engagements on her 10-day trip to South and Central American tour on the request of Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, met was welcomed at the Presidential Palace in the country on Saturday.
After concluding her visit in Panama, Sophie had arrived Guatemala City and an update was shared by the British Embassy, detailing how the royal had endorsed the message from the UK and from King Charles.
“Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Edinburgh was received at the Presidential Palace by Her Excellency Bernardo Arevalo, President of Guatemala,” a statement from the embassy read.
“They talked about shared priorities such as gender equality, environmental sustainability and opportunities for Guatemalan youth. The Duchess reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to a more sustainable and prosperous future.”
King Charles has held on the steady theme of sustainability even since he ascended to the throne in 2022. Hence, it only seems appropriate that Sophie, who is dubbed as the ‘secret weapon’ for the monarch, was delivering the message representing the UK and the royal family.
During her visit, Sophie had also met with British Ambassador Juliana Correa. Prince Edward’s wife also had engagements to meet women leaders, learn about initiatives for children, and visit the UK-funded programme in the Maya Jungle that promotes biodiversity and sustainable development.
