Dog accidently shot owner after he left his gun at bed while cleaning
A rare incident gained attention where a dog shot his owner in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
The man was allegedly shot in the back by his dog in a freak accident after he left his gun on the bed at his home on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
Shillington Police Department called the incident “the perfect storm."
According to police officials, the canine accidentally shot owner after he mistakenly left the gun in his room.
The 53-year-old man told police he was cleaning his shotgun and when he left the firearm down at his bed, one of his dogs jumped on the mattress and set the weapon off, which openly struck the male.
The victim’s got severe gun wounds at his back. His son immediately called 911 and took him to Reading Hospital where he underwent for surgery.
Shillington Police department advised that everyone should be more alert and careful about keeping weapons.
"Obviously, you should be treating every weapon as if it's loaded," said Shillington Corporal. Michael Schoone.
"You know, all the cardinal rules: keeping it in a safe direction, finger off the trigger... This was, like you said, it's the perfect storm. You know it was just the right place at the right time, or the wrong time,” the police official added.
