Duchess Sophie sheds fear as she gets wild experience of lifetime
Duchess of Edinburgh walks a fascinating and dangerous path during Peruvian Amazon visit
Duchess Sophie seemed unfazed by the danger of the exotic wildlife of the Amazonian forest but rather fascinated by it as she undertook a daring engagement.
King Charles’s ‘secret weapon’ who is always dressed to the nines and poised in her meetings with important global figures and civilians alike, maintained that same grace with wild creatures as she does with humans.
Sophie is currently in Peru as part of her 10-day royal tour in South and Central America at the behest of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
On her second day in Peru, Sophie had stepped aboard the historic Cañonera Fluvial América — a vessel that has navigated the Amazon River for more than a century.
The Duchess learned about the ship’s remarkable history and its role in connecting communities along the river. Following that, she took a biodiversity nature walk with a professional local guide, Rey Mozombite, to view the luscious landscape and the fascinating beings that exist in that habitat.
During her walk, Sophie had no hesitation in holding sloth, a green anaconda, Goliath birdeating spider. She rather seemed amazed and captivated by the wildlife which may make most people squeamish at the sight.
Sophie is focused on social action, health, and conservation during her extensive visit, representing the King’s values about sustainability.
