WhatsApp launches new feature to activate maximum protection against cyberattacks
WhatsApp new features enhance user security
WhatsApp for Android is developing a new feature to protect accounts from hacking and scams.
This unified security setup is aimed at users who believe they are at high risk of cyberattacks and can be activated with a single click.
The latest version will include a new feature known as "Strict Account Settings" which will allow users at high risk of cyberattacks or phishing attempts to enhance their own account security, according to a report published by WABetaInfo reviewed by Al Arabiya Business.
Activate maximum protection in a single tap
Once the feature is activated, the WhatsApp feature will automatically perform the following functions.
- Block images and files sent from unknown numbers
- Disable link previews
- Mute calls from anonymous contacts
- Restrict group invitations to only include people in the contact list.
- Enable two-step verification.
- Protect the IP address using IP anonymization.
- Notify users if the security code for any contact changes.
How the new security feature will help to navigate security challenges
The new feature provides a swift, one-tap approach to activate all privacy settings at once. It will further alleviate the risk of users making security option mistakes.
The feature is in the development phase and has not reached beta testers. It is anticipated to undergo certain changes before its official launch.
Additionally, the new mode will be voluntary for users. Existing encryption will continue to safeguard all accounts by default.
