Shakira wins big after many setbacks during world tour
Shakira's tour de force earns her top honour
Shakira has been crowned Billboard's Global Touring Icon for her record-breaking Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour, which has grossed an impressive $327.4 million and sold over 2.5 million tickets.
The tour, which kicked off in February 2024, has become the highest-grossing Latin tour by a woman in history, with 82 shows scheduled to conclude in December 2025.
Accepting the award, Shakira expressed her gratitude to her team, saying, "This is incredible, I just want to share this with all of you guys. My band, my dancers, my crew, my staff, my team - everyone has worked so hard on this tour. We have gotten so far and overcome so many obstacles. Here we are making history."
The Waka Waka hitmaker's tour has been a testament to her dedication and resilience, despite facing challenges such as a torrential downpour in Mexico, a dressing room flood, and technical issues.
In May, she even fell on stage during a performance in Montreal, Canada, but joked about it, saying, "No one is safe from falls!"
The singer's Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran album, released in 2024, has been a huge success, topping the Billboard Top Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums charts.
The tour has also been praised for its high-energy performances, with Shakira delivering hit songs like Hips Don't Lie.
Fans have been congratulating Shakira on her achievement, with one saying, "You deserve all the good," and another adding, "For me, Shakira is the reason why I'm proud to be Colombian - her music and legacy are a national pride."
