Shawn Mendes reveals Prince William's wholesome surprise for mum

Prince William won over the Mendes family by sending a birthday cake to Shawn Mendes’ mum on her birthday.

The Wonder hitmaker spoke about the sweet gesture at the green carpet in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the future king’s Earthshot Prize awards ceremony.

"She's still shaking, thank you," Mendes, 24, told the Prince of Wales in a video shared by People Magazine.

William surprised the Treat You Better singer’s mum, Karen, with the cake when he learnt that her birthday was on Sunday.

Karen, who is originally a British citizen, hailing from Dorset county in Southwest England, was left bewildered by the surprise as Mendes shared.

The There’s Nothing Holding Me Back singer met William ahead of the ceremony at the Museum of Tomorrow, before he performed alongside Anitta, Seu Jorge, and Kylie Minogue.

For the unversed, the heir to the throne inaugurated the Earthshot Prize back in 2020 to encourage innovative solutions to the ever-growing environmental challenges faced by the planet.

The prize offers $1.3 million every year in five categories, including Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, and Fix Our Climate.
