The future King visited the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, quietly retracing the footsteps of his late mother, Princess Diana, who stood in the same spot during her memorable 1991 tour of Brazil.

Upon arrival, the Prince was warmly welcomed by Padre Omar Raposo, The Guardian of the Sanctuary, who personally guided him to the chapel at the base of the towering monument.

Perched atop Corcovado Mountain, William paused for a moment of reflection beneath the 98-foot monument, gazing out over the dazzling expanse of Guanabara Bay before recreating his mother’s famous photograph, a heartfelt tribute to her enduring legacy.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson revealed that the Prince had been “incredibly struck” by how fondly Brazilians still remember Diana’s visit.

Over the past few days, William has embraced Rio’s warmth and energy, meeting locals and Earthshot supporters ahead of the big night.

During the 45 minute private visit, he spent time with all 15 Earthshot finalists, discussing their year-long journey through the programme.

Each finalist has benefited from mentorship, global exposure, pro-bono legal support, and strategic guidance to help scale their planet-saving innovations.

Later tonight, five winners will be crowned across the categories of Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, and Fix Our Climate each receiving $1.3 million to drive their projects forward.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is set to join Prince William at the Prize ceremony where the Prince of Wales will deliver the evening’s keynote address.
