OpenAI aims to build ‘legitimate AI researcher’ by 2028
OpenAI models have been advancing to solve complex tasks immediately
OpenAI aims to develop a true automated AI researcher- models capable of solving complex tasks instantly, going beyond being a simple tool or even a “legitimate AI researcher” by 2028.
The announcement came as OpenAI completed its transition to a public benefit corporation, marking a deviation from its original mission.
In this connection, OpenAI’s chief scientist, Jakub Pachocki, joined Altman on a live streaming and said, “We believe that it is possible that deep learning systems are less than a decade away from achieving superintelligence- systems smarter than humans across a large number of critical tasks.”
OpenAI is primarily working on objectives consistent with its overarching mission to advance scientific research and enable AI to achieve groundbreaking discoveries more rapidly than human researchers.
It will further contribute to addressing complex problems and enhancing technological innovation in various fields such as medicine, physics, and technological development.
According to Altman, the revolution creates a structure to support OpenAI’s accelerated timeline for AI research assistants while maintaining an utmost commitment to responsible AI development.
The new structure allows the non-profit OpenAI Foundation to focus on scientific advancement, to own 26% of the for-profit, and to govern the particular research direction.
In addition, the non-profit will launch a $25 billion commitment to use AI for curing diseases and will oversee AI research in line safety initiatives.
Ultimately, the new changes will help scale the necessary infrastructure to accelerate scientific discoveries.
