King Charles makes TIME100 Climate list, royalty goes green in big way
King Charles teases autumn escape at Balmoral Castle
King Charles is no stranger to fighting for the planet and now the world is officially noticing.
King Charles has been named to the prestigious TIME100 Climate list, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Pope Leo XIV and actor Samuel L. Jackson.
A lifelong environmentalist, Charles has been sounding the alarm on plastic pollution and climate change since the 1970s.
But in recent years, he’s shifted gears from advocacy to action. In 2023, he appointed a head of sustainability to overhaul the Royal Family’s carbon footprint, unveiled plans to solar power Sandringham Estate with a 2,000-panel installation, and began replacing historic gas lamps at royal residences with eco-friendly LEDs.
This summer, the Royal Sovereign Grant Report highlighted “environmental sustainability” as a priority, guiding the engagements of King Charles and Queen Camilla and signaling a green first approach for the monarchy.
Through the King’s Foundation, he launched the “Harmony Awards” in June 2024 to honour innovators and leaders who prioritise sustainability and nature, further cementing his role as a monarch with a green mission.
Meanwhile, the monarch is giving royal fans a sneak peek into life north of the border.
Balmoral Castle is set to welcome visitors on select dates this autumn, the team revealed in a fresh social media post.
The latest update included a stunning new photo of the iconic Scottish estate and teased what guests can expect during their visit.
