This time, at the New York Marathon, which is scheduled for November 6, 2025, the runners are expected to face slightly warmer conditions, experts have warned.

Scientists believe that the ideal conditions for marathon running are somewhere between 39 degrees and 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to a new study by Climate Central, climate change is threatening the optimal conditions that help elite runners set new records and amateurs achieve their personal bests.

The study further indicated that as our planet continues to warm due to human-amplified climate change, ideal marathon conditions will become increasingly rare for many events globally.

According to the research, 86% of the 221 global marathons that are analyzed are less likely to have ideal climate conditions on race days by 2045, just because of the phenomenon of climate change.

It means all seven upcoming Abbott World Marathons are going to be affected by this, including the renowned New York City and Boston Marathons.

For elite male runners, the Tokyo Marathon offers the world’s most favorable odds for ideal race-day conditions, but the Climate Central analysis found that it’s also experiencing the sharpest decline in the likelihood of perfect weather by 2045 as global temperatures are expected to surge.
