Pentagon blasts Netflix's 'A House of Dynamite': Here's why

The Pentagon has called out the giant video streaming platform Netflix over the factual misrepresentation in a recent release, A House of Dynamite, saying it significantly misrepresented America’s missile-defense system and was produced without any official military communication.

A House of Dynamite was directed by Kathryn Bigelow; the movie dramatizes an 18-minute sequence after detecting a missile launch aimed at the U.S.

The movie spotlights complete chaos in Washington, D.C., and projects Pentagon officials racing against the clock, with one character citing the system’s limited efficacy, estimating a 50% success rate despite its hefty price tag.

But according to an internal memo from the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) accessed by Bloomberg News, real-world testing for ground-based missile interceptors has “displayed a 100 percent accuracy rate… for more than a decade."

The memo argues that while the film may create dramatic tension by portraying vulnerabilities, it also “downplays US capabilities” in a way the agency finds misleading.

As per The Independent, the Pentagon has stressed that it was not consulted during the film’s production and added that the depiction does not reflect the views or priorities of the current administration.

The statement highlights that the missile-defense system “remains a critical component of our national defense strategy, ensuring the safety and security of the American people and our allies.”

On the other hand, Director Kathryn Bigelow confirmed she did not seek formal Pentagon input, explaining she chose to go “independent,” though she says she relied on technical advisers who had Pentagon experience.

Following after the controversy, the film appears to have received an acceptance of about 79 percent on aggregator sites from critics’ rating.

The Pentagon warns viewers that the motion picture’s portrayal deviates enormously from its official data and protocols.
