Prince Andrew accused of doing more for republicanism than Cromwell

Prince Andrew could face parliament over 20 years of rent free royal living

Prince Andrew is under fire once again, and this time the criticism is hitting historic heights. Labour MP Graham Stringer didn’t hold back, claiming the Duke of York has done more damage to monarchist sentiment than anyone since the 17th century.

“He’s achieved more for republicanism than anyone since Oliver Cromwell,” Stringer said, comparing Andrew’s controversial actions to the political upheaval of the English Civil War.

The MP went on to accuse the royal of swinging a “metaphorical wrecking ball” at public support for the monarchy, leaving Buckingham Palace watchers cringing.

His remarks come as parliamentarians weigh potential formal action against Andrew, amid growing scrutiny of his financial dealings and his infamous ties to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Labour MP Graham Stringer didn’t hold back, insisting that while the late Queen Elizabeth II spent decades earning near-universal support for the monarchy even among republicans her son Andrew has “almost completely undone that work.”

According to Stringer, the Duke of York has chipped away at the goodwill his mother so carefully built.

Now, parliamentary leaders are weighing whether to summon Andrew for questioning over his Windsor residence, Royal Lodge, a sprawling 30-bedroom estate where he has paid no rent for more than 20 years.

The potential grilling would focus on the lease terms for the property, shining a spotlight on Andrew’s living arrangements and adding yet another layer of pressure amid his ongoing controversies.
