Storm Benjamin pounds UK, France, Belgium with 75mph winds, torrential rain

Storm Benjamin made landfall in Western Europe on Thursday, October 23, 2025, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and flooding to the United Kingdom, France, Portugal and Belgium.

The UK Met Office multiple yellow warnings of severe weather and winds, and cautioned about possible power cuts and travel disruptions.

The storm is moving from the English Channel to the North Sea with winds packed at 75mph and forecasters warn that large waves pose a danger to life.

Some areas are expected to receive nearly 50mm (90mm in some isolated areas) of rain and therefore, British citizens living in coastal areas have been urged to express caution and pre-plan in case of flooding.

Chief meteorologist Rebekah Hicks urged citizens to stay updated on the latest forecasts adding, “adjustments to the forecasts can be made at short notice, if the situation evolves”.

As U.K. braces for impact, the most severe effects are expected to be felt in France, Belgium and Netherlands.

Though, storm Benjamin does not pose any serious threat other than some travel disruptions and flooding. 

The French National Meteorological service, Meteo France, took the decision to name the storm as storm Benjamin.
