Tom Parker Bowles and David Beckham cook up a storm
David Beckham delights King Charles with homegrown honey
David Beckham has teamed up with the Queen’s son, food writer Tom Parker Bowles, for a special one off edition of Country Life magazine, published on Wednesday.
The pair stepped into the kitchens at Claridge’s to prepare one of Beckham’s favourite meals, sharing both laughs and nostalgia over a quintessentially British dish.
“There's something so nostalgic about mashed potato, liver, bacon and lots of gravy. It's one of those British comfort classics that my mum used to make for me and was also my grandad’s favourite dish,” Beckham revealed.
Former football legend also reflected fondly on his family’s culinary traditions, adding, “My gran was also a great cook, and it was always a treat going down to the pie and mash shop in Chapel Market. If I had to choose my last meal, it would be pie, mash, liquor and jellied eels.”
David Beckham has traded the hustle of London for the tranquil charm of the Cotswolds, splitting his time with Victoria between their Holland Park townhouse and their £12 million countryside mansion, purchased in 2016.
He has embraced country living wholeheartedly, developing a passion for beekeeping among other rural pursuits.
Beckham even presented King Charles with a jar of honey from his own hives during the British Fashion Council Foundation Impact Day in 2023.
The sports star, who became an ambassador for The King’s Foundation last year, described the honour as “very special.”
“Our King is an incredible man,” Beckham said. “He has not just been incredible for the last five, ten years, he’s been incredible for decades.
We share very similar interests beekeeping, the countryside, empowering young people so I’m very honoured with that role.”
