Prague has decided to ban electric scooters in a bid to curb chaos on the sidewalks. This decision by the Czech authorities comes after Spain and France imposed a silimar ban in their capital cities.

The eco-friendly and easily available mode of transport at tourist hubs has been widely used by tourists to move from one place to the other. But its parking across sidewalks caused traffic disruption and created difficulties even for pedestrians.

Prague city councilors have made major changes to the transport policy regulating travel via bikes including electric and pedal.

The decision to ban e-scooters was announced on Monday, October 21, 2025 and access to the tourist-friendly mode of transport will end in January next year.

In a post on X, the National Pirate party chair and deputy mayor in charge of city transport Zdenek Hrib announced: “The end of electric scooters approved.”

He added that the city administration has announced new rules to clear public space from uncontrolled scooter traffic.

The decision is taken to curb the number of e-scooters zipping across the city.

The deputy mayor said that the vehicles were mostly used in the city center as a mode of tourist attraction instead of being an actual mode of transportation.

The company behind Prague's e-scooters has, however, pushed for a review of the decision, stating, “a constructive dialogue is needed to find viable solution where scooters can work and citizens.”
