Carrie Romney’s body was found near a parking garage
The family of former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Mitt Romney is mourning the unexpected death of his sister-in-law, Carrie Elizabeth Romney, at the age of 64.
Her body was found near a parking garage in the Valencia neighbourhood of Los Angeles on October 10, 2025.
Law enforcement responded to the scene late Friday evening. A representative for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that a woman was found on the street after having “jumped or fell” from a parking structure.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identity of the deceased as Carrie Romney. The official cause of the death is listed as “deferred,” which means more investigation, including toxicology tests, is needed to make a final determination. Authorities have not reported any signs of foul play.
Former Utah Senator Mitt Romney confirmed the loss through a spokesperson sharing the family’s devastation and asking for privacy during this difficult time.
A statement was provided on behalf of the family:
“Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carie, who brought warmth and love to all our lives. We ask for privacy during this difficult time.”
Carrie Elizabeth Romney was 64 years old. The tragic news comes as Mitt Romney recently concluded his term in the Senate.
