Climate tipping points have been a debatable issue in the scientific community, causing human-induced climate change with irreversible planetary changes.

The recent report titled “Global Tipping Points” published by the University of Exeter has reported that Earth has reached its first climate tipping point.

As per report, the world's warm-water coral reefs are crossing their survival limit with no point of return, declared by the scientists for the first time.

"Already at 1.4C of global warming, warm water coral reefs are crossing their thermal tipping point and experiencing unprecedented dieback," said the report.

According to global experts, increased warming of oceans, pollution, and acidification have been responsible for coral bleaching and death. A large number of reefs are on the precipice of death unless the global temperatures revert to 1°C warming or below.

"Sadly, we're now almost certain that we crossed one of those tipping points for warm water or tropical coral reefs," report lead Tim Lenton, a climate and Earth system scientist at the University of Exeter, told AFP.

According to Tim, the world has entered a new climate reality characterized by a tipping point in the climate system.

“We have crossed a tipping point in the climate system, and we're now sure we're going to carry on through 1.5°C of global warming above the prior industrial level, and that's going to put us in the danger zone for crossing more climate tipping points,” Tim added.

According to researchers, climate change has become a tangible and irreversible reality as even at lower levels of global warming, ice sheets from Greenland to West Antarctica and Amazon rainforest could also experience critical climate thresholds.
