Chrissy Teigen is standing by her friend Meghan Markle.
The model attended Hello Sunshine’s Shine Away event where she was advocating for early diabetes testing following her and John Legend’s son Miles’ diagnosis. Speaking to People magazine during the event, she opened up about her friendship with the Duchess of Sussex and the public’s often divided perception of her.
“I adore her,” Teigen, 39, said. “I really adore her. I think she is so incredibly strong.”
She added that it baffles her how “polarizing” Meghan, 44, is to some, insisting that the mom-of-two is simply “a kind, good person” who wants the best for her loved ones.
According to Teigen — who appeared as a guest on season two of Meghan’s Netflix show With Love, Meghan — people read too much into Meghan’s life. “
She just wants those things,” she said. “And people come up with all these different things that she could be about or what she wants, ... [but] it’s not that complicated.”
Teigen also praised Meghan’s resilience in the face of criticism. “I think it’s cool that [she] is just like, ‘Listen, say whatever you want. I’m happy and I’m healthy and I feel good.’”
As for whether their kids ever hang out, Teigen joked, “I don’t leave the house,” before laughing that she’d “absolutely” be up for a playdate if the opportunity came up.
Teigen’s show of support comes shortly after Meghan’s latest controversy during Paris Fashion Week, where she posted a clip with her feet up on the dashboard of a car while driving past what many believed to be the crash site of Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.
