According to CNN, hundreds of trekkers stranded by a blizzard near the eastern face of Mount Everest in Tibet have been guided to safety by rescuers. At the same time, some tourists on the mountain have already been brought down.
Almost 350 trekkers had reached the small township of Qudang, while hundreds of other blizzard-struck trekkers are still waiting to be rescued.
“It was so wet and cold in the mountains, and hypothermia was a real risk,” said Chen Geshuang, who was part of an 18-strong trekking team that made it to Qudang.

“The weather this year is not normal. The guide said he had never encountered such weather in October. And it happened all too suddenly,” Chen added.

After the massive snowstorm pinned down climbers on the Tibetan side, the tents of the trekkers had been reportedly damaged, and news of casualties has also been mentioned. However, no fatalities have been reported thus far.

The blizzard hit Tibetan peaks during China’s weeklong national holiday, increasing the number of hikers on the mountain.
The Tourism Company in Tringri County reports that hundreds of people purchased tickets to view the Everest scenic views over the weekend while celebrating an eight-day holiday. Still, unfortunately, they were stranded due to a Snowstorm, which later complicated rescue efforts.
The CNN further reported that hundreds of local villagers and rescue teams had already been deployed in Tibet to reach people trapped on the eastern slopes of Mount Everest after a Blizzard blocked key access to trekking routes on the highest peaks.
Moreover, relief operations are underway, and teams are tirelessly working to help remove snow blocking access to the area, which sits at an altitude above 4,900 metres, equivalent to almost 16,000 feet.
In addition, rescue teams are clearing paths and evacuating those trapped due to unusually heavy snow and rainfall that pummeled the Himalayan peaks.
Mount Everest is the highest mountain on Earth, with its peak measuring 8,848 metres above sea level.
It is also considered ‘deadly’ as it has claimed the lives of hundreds of climbers since Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary first climbed to its summit in 1953.
According to the latest reports, more than 400 people have died while climbing “Peak of Heaven.”
