King Charles, Donald Trump's state visit hit by risky blunder

UK taxpayers were hit with a bill of more than £50,000 after it was discovered that American flags intended for Donald Trump's State Visit featured an incorrect shade of red.

Dozens of US flags had to be urgently remade just before the former President's arrival, reported GB News.

Nick Farley, whose company is the official flag supplier to the UK Government, revealed that 66 specially made flags were ordered at a cost of around of £800 each.

The original flags ere deemed unusable after officials determined that the red used did not meet US specifications.

According to Mr Farley, American officials had specified a 'cherry red' colour for their national flag, rejecting the standard red previously used.

Mr Farley told The Telegraph: 'Their red is now stronger than the red on the Union flag.

'The Americans decided that the red we use, which is called RO1, wasn't right for them, and that they wanted a cherry red instead, so we had to buy all new flags for this visit.'

Farley's firm, The Flag Consultancy, is contracted to supplying woven polyester flags for key state occasions, including weddings, funerals, jubilees, and coronations.

President Trump and First Lady Melania were welcomed last month during a three-day state visit hosted by the King and Queen, alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The visit included a formal military welcome, a Red Arrows fly past, and a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace.

Trump later described the event as 'truly one of the highest honours of my life.'

The streets around Windsor Castle and The Mall were lined with the newly manufactured US flags, ensuring everything appeared flawless for the high-profile occasion.
