Trump honors 9/11 at Yankees game despite security concerns

On the 24th anniversary of the events of September 11th, 2001, President Donald Trump went to a New York Yankees baseball game which was met with both praise and criticism, given the increased security measures that have been brought about by the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The 47th US President visited the Pentagon in the morning, and his appearance at Yankee Stadium in the evening on Thursday, September 11, came after the president took part in remembrance ceremonies. The victims and the first responders of the attacks in 2001 were honored during the pregame activities.

Trump attended the game in the Steinbrenner family box that is secured with bulletproof glass.

His entrance and later appearance before the stadium's video screen were greeted with loud applause and boos, which the president received with a grin.

A moment of silence was also observed by the Yankees organization in honor of Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, who was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University.

Trump, in his Pentagon speech, declared that he was going to give Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, saying, “We miss him greatly, yet I have no doubt that Charlie's voice and the courage he put into the hearts of countless people, especially young people, will live on.”

Wall Street Journal reported that extra security precautions were taken on the occasion. Trump had former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly and former Attorney General Pam Bondi in the box with him.
