Angelina Jolie breaks down remembering late mother
Angelina Jolie moves the audience with raw moment about her late mom
Angelina Jolie was brought to tears at the Toronto International Film Festival while speaking about her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand.
The legendary actress was at a Q&A for her new film Couture, which follows a filmmaker working in the Paris fashion world while dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
Angelina’s mother died in 2007 at the age of 56 after battling ovarian and breast cancer. However, the mother-daughter duo was very close, especially after her parents’ divorce.
Marcheline was once married to actor Jon Voight and also had a son, James Haven, with him.
During the event, a fan shared that they recently lost a close friend to cancer and asked the Maria star what advice she would give to anyone grieving.
The question moved her deeply, as she held her hand over her mouth and she tried to hold back tears, while her director Alice Winecour along with co-star Anyier Anei comforted her.
"I'm very sorry for your loss," the she said gently while remembering her mother’s words.
The actress said, "One thing I remember my mother saying when she had cancer… we’d had a dinner and people were asking her how she was doing. She said, 'All people ever ask me about is cancer.'"
The Couture actress shared her advice, saying, "If you know someone who’s going through something, ask them about everything else in their life as well. They’re a whole person. And they’re still living."
Angelina explained that and this was what she loved about Couture too, as it showed that even in illness life is much more than a diagnosis.
