Meghan Markle hopes to avoid tragedy as key announcement looms
Duchess of Sussex expecting major news just weeks after renewing Netflix contract
Meghan Markle is hoping to avoid the repeat of a disaster as Netflix is yet to announce major news about the future.
The Duchess of Sussex dropped the second season of her show last week and it has already caused a stir in the British and the US public, after the streamer had finalised their new contract.
The first season of With Love, Meghan received scathing reviews which cast dark clouds over the possibility of the lucrative deal renewal for the Sussexes. However, many experts believed that the deal was a reduced amount to what they got from the previous contract.
Although the second season did not garner much negative attention but it also did not pave way for optimism regarding the third season.
“When a royal brand can't crack the board, it's likely an obituary for season 3,” Eric Schiffer, chairman of Reputation Management Consultants, told Newsweek. “Even with Chrissy Teigen and Tan France glitter-bombing the set, the series hit the pavement.”
He expressed that the show had “missed by a mile” and “even hate watchers stayed home, Season 3 is unlikely.”
“That influencer erosion and the lack of coverage for Season 2 was catastrophic and highlighted a litmus test for real demand which has fallen off a cliff into an abyss.”
Although, Erin Vanderhoof believes it’s “not necessarily a tragedy” for the Sussexes.
“In early August, Netflix announced that it would continue to work with Archewell—though unlike its first partnership with Meghan and Harry, the new one is a first-look agreement rather than an exclusive, overall deal,” she wrote in Vanity Fair.
“And while Netflix hasn’t announced whether With Love, Meghan will return for a third season, it did share that a With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration special will air in December.”
Netflix and the the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not yet issued a comment as the outlet approached them.
