A public health alert has been issued for Trader Joe’s frozen not-ready-to-eat (NRTE) uncured pizza sold in California.

The product recall was declared after the product was imported without undergoing the required federal inspection.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) confirmed no illnesses have been reported so far.

The mentioned item is a 17.63-oz cardboard box packaged containing “TRADER JOE’S UNCURED PEPPERONI PIZZA PRODUCT OF ITALY,” bearing manufacturing lot codes “MFG LOT: 06/16/25 BEST BY: 08/16/26” or “MFG LOT: 06/21/25 BEST BY 08/21/26” mentioned on the bottom of the package.

The packaging also features the establishment number “IT 1558 L UE” printed on it.

The issue arose when Trader Joe's informed the FSIS that the product had not undergone mandatory reinspection for imports.

Even though the pizza is no longer available for purchase, the FSIS advises that people can still have it in freezers at home.

The agency advised anyone who had purchased the product to stop taking it and either dispose of it or request for a refunded from Trader Joe's.

“FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased this product are urged not to consume it. This product should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” FSIS wrote in an official statement.

Trader Joe's has completely complied with the federal authorities and has also stopped selling the product.
