PCB suspends Haider Ali amid UK police investigation
Right-handed batter facing probe following incident occurred during Pakistan Shaheens' recent tour of England
KARACHI: Right-handed batter Haider Ali has been provisionally suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board after British police launched a criminal investigation involving him.
The PCB said Thursday it was made aware of an investigation by Greater Manchester Police into an incident that allegedly occurred during the Pakistan Shaheens' recent tour of England.
In a statement, the cricket board said it had ensured Haider was provided with appropriate legal support and emphasised that it respects the legal procedures of the United Kingdom.
“Accordingly, the PCB has decided to place Haider Ali under provisional suspension, effective immediately, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation,” the board said.
The PCB added that it would determine any further action under its Code of Conduct once legal proceedings conclude.
No further details of the incident have been disclosed. The PCB said it would not comment further until the legal process is complete.
Haider, 24, has represented Pakistan in two ODIs and 35 T20Is since making his debut in 2020.
