Doja Cat takes jab at Sydney Sweeney amid campaign controversy
Doja Cat mocks Sydney Sweeney as controversial American Eagle ad sparks outrage
Doja Cat turned up the heat on Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle ad as she mocked the campaign in a viral TikTok.
The singer copied one of Sweeney’s lines from the commercial, saying, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.”
She delivered it with a fake Southern accent and a blank look which many saw as a playful but pointed dig at Sweeney’s performance.
The ad, which was meant to promote American Eagle’s fall denim collection, showed the Euphoria star dressed in all denim while making a joke about “genes” and “jeans.”
What was supposed to be clever instead drew anger, with many accusing the campaign of being tone deaf and racially insensitive.
However, people online said that the focus on the White Lotus star's blue eyes and blonde look felt outdated and even compared it to old ads that faced similar criticism.
Some of voices defended the commercial, calling it harmless but most of the reaction on social media was negative.
American Eagle has yet to respond and Sydney Sweeney’s team remained silent as the debate around the ad and Doja Cat’s mockery continue to escalate.
