Eddie Murphy reflect on son’s marriage to Martin Lawrence's daughter
Eddie Murphy’s son Eric married Martin Lawrence's daughter Jasmin
Eddie Murphy is opening up about his son Eric’s recent marriage to Martin Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin Lawrence, and it turns out the union didn’t cause much of a shift in family dynamics.
Speaking at the premiere of his new film The Pickup on July 28, Eddie shared that the couple had already been a close part of each other’s lives for years.
“They were together for a couple years, so she already had been in the family,” he said.
The wedding itself came as a surprise to some, as the couple initially planned a larger celebration but decided to go with a more intimate approach.
“They were gonna have a big wedding, then they went off and did a little thing,” Eddie explained. Though the marriage was low-key, it seems to have been exactly what they wanted, and their families were completely supportive.
When it comes to the next chapter in their relationship, including the possibility of grandchildren, Eddie isn’t in any rush.
“I’m never pushing them,” he said. “I think it’s a beautiful blessing and whenever it happens, it happens.”
Martin Lawrence, who shares Jasmin with ex-wife Patricia Southall, echoed similar thoughts in a previous interview.
Appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show in May, he described Eric as “a great young man” and praised the couple’s decision to make their own choices without pressure.
“We want the best for our children,” he said, speaking about co-parenting with Murphy. “We let them do their own thing and make their choices and stay out of their business and let them find their way.”
Eddie even found humor in the situation during his own appearance on the same show, joking that the elopement saved Martin from paying for a wedding.
Their remarks reflect a shared sense of mutual respect, not only for each other but for their adult children navigating love on their own terms.
It’s a lighthearted and heartfelt look at two comedy legends embracing their roles as supportive fathers, and now, in-laws.
