Prince William and Princess Kate may have been on official duty, but that didn’t stop them from sharing a few cosy moments in between.

On July 8, the Prince and Princess of Wales reunited publicly for the first time in nearly a month as they welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron to the U.K. for the start of a three-day state visit.

While much of the day was filled with tradition and formality, sharp-eyed royal watchers noticed a few brief but tender moments between the royal couple.

As the pair greeted the French delegation at RAF Northolt and later accompanied them to Windsor Castle for the official welcome ceremony, William was seen offering his future queen a supportive hand as she made her way down the stairs for the carriage procession.

Another candid moment captured Kate resting her hand affectionately on her husband’s back as they stood side by side during the inspection of the Guards of Honour.

Later in the day, the couple changed into red-and-black coordinated outfits for the State Banquet.

It was their first joint appearance since the Garter Day Service in mid-June. Princess Catherine was then expected to join William for the Royal Ascot, but she pulled out quietly at the last minute.

Kensington Palace later clarified that her attendance was never confirmed and that the Princess continues to pace her return to public life amid cancer recovery.
