Kate Middleton faces embarrassing moment due to his father

Sue Barker, the renowned former French Open champion and BBC broadcaster, has shared a delightful anecdote about Princess Kate's embarrassing moment involving British tennis icon Tim Henman. 

In her 2024 book, Wimbledon: A Personal History, Barker recounts an interview she conducted with Princess Kate for her 2017 documentary Our Wimbledon.

During the filming of the documentary, Barker had the opportunity to interview both the Duke of Kent and Princess Kate at Kensington Palace. 

Barker described Princess Kate as "so lovely to talk to" and noted that she was a natural in front of the camera, showcasing her obvious love for tennis from a young age.

In the interview, Princess Kate shared an embarrassing incident from her past, revealing how her father, Michael Middleton, once mistook Tim Henman for 14-time Grand Slam champion Pete Sampras. 

Princess Kate recalled: "My father is not going to appreciate this, but we were walking past Tim Henman and we had just seen Sampras play. And dad said very coolly, 'Hi Pete.' I was mortified!"

As a regular attendee of high-profile matches, Princess Kate is often seen sitting in the Royal Box at Wimbledon. She also presents the tournament's finalists with their trophies, including the men's singles champion Carlos Alcaraz in 2024.

Sue Barker's illustrious broadcasting career with the BBC spanned almost three decades, during which she interviewed numerous big names, including sports stars and members of the royal family. 

Her dedication to tennis and her professionalism earned her widespread recognition, including being appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2021 for her services to broadcasting and charity.
