Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married five years ago but the couple has not made any form of contact with Thomas Markle.
Before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex tied the knot, Meghan had a falling out with her father amid claims that he had leaked information about her personal life to the press. They have not communicated since the incident, leaving Thomas Sr devastated.
According to royal expert, there was actually another major reason why Harry never met his father-in-law.
“Why did Mr Markle never meet Prince Harry?” royal author Hugo Vickers speculated during The Sun podcast with royal editor Matt Wilkinson and expert Samara Gil.
“There can only be three reasons for that,” Vickers said. “One that she was ashamed of him, which I think is a bit unattractive.”
Vickers noted that the second reason was possibly that Meghan thought something went down during the private call.
“Possibly that she thought he'd done something, but when Prince Harry rang Mr Markle up and asked if he could marry his daughter, he said ‘you can marry her as long as you never raise your hand against her’,” he claimed. “Of course we don't talk like that, so maybe he lives in a world where people have done that sort of thing.”
Although, Vickers quickly dimissed the notion since he himself disputed the second choice. However, he believes the third may have been a plausible reason.
“I think she was worried that he might actually have warned Prince Harry – this is not what you're getting, this girl.”
Vickers noted that despite everything, Harry should have made the effort to have Meghan’s father at the wedding.
“If [Thomas] couldn't have walked the aisle he should have been sitting there, because, as you rightly say, he did a lot for that girl and she even admitted it in the early days before she distanced herself from him.”
Meanwhile, Samara Gil mentioned that while Harry and Meghan talk about security and privacy, Thomas Markle was “hounded” which eventually forced him to leave the country.
