Meghan and Prince William worlds apart after Invictus update

Prince Harry is set to return to the UK for the 2027 Invictus Games but hopes for a royal reunion remain slim, with no indication that Prince William or Meghan Markle will be present.

The Duke of Sussex will make a high profile appearance in Birmingham as the Games come to the Midlands for the first time, running from July 10 to July 17, 2027. 

The official announcement was shared on Tuesday via the Invictus Games’ social media channels, marking another milestone for the international sporting event Harry founded in 2014.

While his return will be a pivotal moment for the Games, the chances of reconciling with his father or brother appear remote. 

When Harry launched the Invictus Games in 2014, the event was marked by a powerful show of royal unity with King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Prince William all in attendance to support the Duke of Sussex’s vision.

But much has changed since Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020. 

The Invictus Games, once closely tied to the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, now operate independently under the Invictus Games Foundation.

Speaking to the BBC, he shared: "I would love a reconciliation." A comment that hints at his continued desire to rebuild strained family ties.

"Some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book," he told the BBC, adding, "they will never forgive me for lots of things."

In the same interview, Harry stated plainly: "I can't see a world where I would be bringing my wife and kids back to the UK at this point."

The Duke had recently lost his legal challenge over personal security in Britain. 

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, he no longer receives the same level of police protection.

Though he admitted King Charles could help resolve the issue, Harry said he had not asked for his father’s intervention. "I can only come to the UK safely if I am invited, and there is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands."
