King Charles brings smile and surprise to locals with unexpected market visit

King Charles brought smile and luck to the locals today as he casually strolled through a bustling city street on his way to visit a popular local market.

The monarch, 76, began his visit at Christ Church, Spitalfields, before making his way-on foot-to Old Spitalfields Market, drawing astonished reactions from passersby.

Despite the crowds and traffic, the King crossed the road without any official road closures, mingling with the public in an unusually relaxed royal outing.

An Australian tourist celebrating her birthday was thrilled by the unexpected sighting. Speaking to GB News, she said today was her birthday and she could not believe her luck when she saw the King.

She told the People's Channel: 'We could not believe it! We came to London, looked up, and there was the King!'

Another onlooker, who works nearby Spitalfields Market, told GB News: 'It was unbelievable to see the King of England on my lunch break, at my local market! 'I come here almost every day, so it was a real shock.'

Cameron Walker, GB News Royal Correspondent, wrote on X: 'It's not every day you see a head of state strolling through the busy streets of London.

'With no road closures and plenty of surprised onlookers, The King made his way on foot to Old Spitalfields market.'

At the market, King Charles engaged with stallholders showcasing antiques, interior design, set design, and costume as part of the traditional Antiques Thursday.

Earlier in the day, the monarch also reunited with the gospel choir famously performed at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding in 2018.
