King Charles marks special service as Lilibet celebrates 4th birthday
King Charles celebrates important event as he makes solo appearance in London
King Charles made a solo appearance to mark an important event, as his youngest granddaughter, Princess Lilibet, turned four across the pond in Montecito.
The monarch, who has earned a reputation of being a doting grandfather, attended a very special service on Wednesday at the St James’s Palace to celebrate 400 years ‘The Queen’s Chapel’ was completed in 1625.
The Congregation included Ecumenical representatives from German Lutheran and Jesuit churches in recognition of the Chapel’s history as a place of worship for European courtiers, according to royal editor Rebecca English.
The engagement coincided the same day as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter marked her special birthday.
Moreover, the coincidence also extends to the fact that the name 'Lilibet' honours late Queen Elizabeth, as it was her childhood nickname.
It is understood that there was no communication made between the monarch and his grandchild, despite reports claiming Charles longs to meet Harry’s children.
Before formally returning to his royal duties after his Canada trip, the King seemingly had a whirlwind week following his return.
Charles, who has been estranged from his younger son, Prince Harry, learned that he had been planning to drop his royal family name ‘Mountbatten-Windsor’ in favour of his mother Princess Diana’s surname ‘Spencer’.
While speculation suggested that this was due to the ongoing rift between the Sussexes and the royals, a source close to Harry and Meghan dismissed the notion to be “completely untrue”.
Another report suggested that Harry had considered changing his surname but only because there were major hurdles after British officials repeatedly delayed – stretched nearly six months instead of the usual three weeks waiting time – issuing travel documents for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
