Meghan Markle’s rare confession met with icy verdict

Meghan Markle’s recent attempt to open up about money and privilege has sparked backlash, with one top branding expert branding her remarks a calculated move to appear relatable.

The Duchess of Sussex made the comments on her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder during a conversation with billionaire Spanx founder Sara Blakely. 

Meghan revealed she was raised with a strong "guilt mentality surrounding having a lot," referring to wealth and privilege.

While the moment was seemingly intended to show vulnerability, branding strategist Doug Eldridge was unimpressed. 

He criticised the exchange as "inevitable but terribly inauthentic," suggesting the Duchess's admission felt more like a PR tactic than a genuine reflection.

The critique comes amid a broader dip in Meghan’s public popularity, as critics question the tone and timing of her attempts to connect with everyday listeners.

In the newest episode she opened up about growing up with a "scarcity mindset" that, she said, intensified her guilt around wealth and success. 

"It’s that feeling you can’t quite put your finger on like humidity. You can’t see it, but you feel it, and it’s undeniable," she shared, describing the emotional weight she believes many carry, regardless of how much they achieve.

But not everyone is convinced by the duchess’s vulnerability. 

Speaking to Fox News, branding expert Doug called the moment "a tactic to try and become more relatable to her audience" one that he believes missed the mark. 

"You can’t fake authenticity," he said. "You either have it or you don’t — and this has been an ongoing struggle for her."
